The documentary Fantastic Fungi gives us an incredible glimpse into the source of genius. “Genius” is not a label meant for individuals, but instead refers to a metaphysical place that can be tapped into by anyone.
Genius is the quantum field that the poet Rumi described when he wrote:
“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase ‘each other’
doesn’t make any sense.”
Multidimensional visionary and architect Buckminster Fuller encouraged humanity to “dare to be naïve” because that childlike nature is the path to brilliance and true connection. Genius isn’t about being able to regurgitate information on command.
In 1970, Fuller made the controversial observation, “We must do away with the absolutely specious notion that everybody has to earn a living. It is a fact today that one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest. The youth of today are absolutely right in recognizing this nonsense of earning a living. We keep inventing jobs because of this false idea that everybody has to be employed at some kind of drudgery because, according to Malthusian-Darwinian theory, he must justify his right to exist. So we have inspectors of inspectors and people making instruments for inspectors to inspect inspectors. The true business of people should be to go back to school and think about whatever it was they were thinking about before somebody came along and told them they had to earn a living.”
School as we know it doesn’t even have to remain in the picture. Rick and Morty’s creators also highlight this point.
We have the opportunity to open our hearts and minds to an enhanced, embodied way of being.
Leading self-love activist, poet and author Sonya Renee Taylor put it this way, “We will not go back to normal. Normal never was. Our pre-corona existence was not normal other than we normalized greed, inequity, exhaustion, depletion, extraction, disconnection, confusion, rage, hoarding, hate and lack. We should not long to return, my friends. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment. One that fits all of humanity and nature.”
With every leap of faith in oneself, a whole new world unfolds.
